FAQ – iPad Initiative
Q: What is the iPad program?
Lynn’s award-winning, tablet-based academic initiative puts a powerful research and learning tool into the hands of our students. As of fall 2014, all day undergraduates, new MS PSY students and new Doctor of Education (Ed.D.) students will receive upon admission, and keep upon graduation, a brand new iPad.
Q: What is the benefit of learning on an iPad?
iPad-powered learning makes it easy to complete work on the go. Lynn students can use the device’s many tools and preloaded apps to access resources from anywhere. U.S. News & World Report ranked the university among the Most Innovative Schools, a reflection of the engaging educational experiences we provide through digital tools and resources.
Q: Will the iPad have a data plan?
There is no data plan included. The devices are Wi-Fi enabled. Online students must have access to a wireless Internet connection from their home or other location or purchase their own data plan.
Q: What comes pre-loaded on my iPad?
Lynn pre-loads the devices with Mobile Iron, Canvas, e-books, LynnU app and myLynn app. Mobile Iron allows Lynn to make available a complete set of pre-paid apps for students. The apps include productivity and collaboration tools, as well as faculty-selected apps for specific Lynn programs.
Q: I don’t know how to use an iPad. Is there training available?
Students can visit the iPad help page on myLynn for tips and assistance. Note that you must be logged in to utilize this resource. In addition, Apple has several guides available at: support.apple.com/ipad.
Q: What, if any, accessories are included with the iPad?
Your Lynn iPad comes with a power adapter and cord.
Q: Do I need a new iTunes account, or can I use my existing iTunes account?
It is up to you. We suggest that you set up a brand new account if you currently share your iTunes account with family members.
Q: Can I install Lynn apps on another device that I own?
Yes, you can access the Lynn apps through iTunes, using the same Apple ID as the one you use for your Lynn iPad.
Q: When will I receive my iPad?
iPads will be shipped prior to the student’s first term once the $200 instructional fee has been paid through eMarket. Students can also choose to pick up their iPad on-campus. Please note that students must be registered for classes before iPads are eligible for shipping.
Q: Can I use my iPad that I already own?
Yes, you can use your own iPad, provided it has 32GBs of storage capacity and is installed with both the latest version of iOS.
Q: What happens if I take a leave of absence or terminate the program early—do I have to return the iPad?
The iPad does not need to be returned once students have paid the instructional materials fee.
Q: If I already have an iPad with required apps, do I still need to pay the fee and purchase a new iPad?
No. Students who have the required software and an iPad already do not need to pay the instructional materials fee.
Q: Who is responsible for loss or damage of the iPad?
Apple provides a one-year warranty for product defects, but MS PSY students are responsible for lost or damaged devices. Lynn will provide insurance information for students who want to buy additional insurance coverage.
Q: Whom do I contact for service/tech support?
Contact the IT Support Desk in person (located on the first floor of the Lynn Library, circulation desk), by phone (561-237-7979) or by email (ITsupport@lynn.edu). Hours of operation are Monday–Friday, 8 a.m.–6 p.m.
